Rationale

4cmc 4/3 that grants double strike to Oxen and generates value on ETB or attack by exiling the top card — a land creates a 2/2 Ox token, otherwise you may cast the card. In practice this functions as repeatable impulse draw with a land-fail token consolation; the Ox lord text has minimal payoff outside a dedicated Ox tribal build but the card-advantage engine makes it a solid Boros midrange threat. The Ox pool is shallow, limiting the lord upside significantly in most builds.

Learnings (3)

  • The double-strike-to-Oxen clause is largely win-more in practice because the Ox creature type has very few cards in Magic's history; Bruse Tarl is primarily valued for his ETB/attack impulse-draw trigger rather than any tribal synergy.

  • The token created is a 2/2 white Ox, meaning it itself benefits from the double strike lord effect — so a land-hit turn still produces a threatening attacker that gains double strike immediately.

  • Unlike true card draw, the cast window expires at end of your NEXT turn, so mana constraints or a permission-heavy opponent can cause you to lose access to the exiled non-land card.
