Rationale

Fomori Vault is a colorless land that taps for {C} and, for {3}+discard, digs X cards deep equal to your artifact count and puts the best one in hand. It's a powerful late-game card selection engine in artifact-heavy decks where X can be 5+, but is completely dead as an engine without artifact density; the discard cost and 4-mana activation make it slow and conditional outside that shell.

Learnings (3)

  • The dig depth scales with artifacts you CONTROL at activation time, not artifacts in the graveyard or elsewhere — so a wrath that cleared your board the previous turn renders the activation nearly worthless.

  • Because the land taps for {C} (colorless only), it competes with utility land slots rather than fixing slots in multicolor decks, making it less attractive outside mono-color or heavy-artifact builds that already have fixing.

  • The discard-a-card cost combined with putting non-selected cards on the BOTTOM in random order means you cannot meaningfully set up the top of your library — it's pure card selection, not top-deck manipulation.
