Rationale

Kellan is a 3/3 flying lifelink for GWU that triggers whenever you cast a spell from anywhere other than your hand — letting you free-cast a permanent from hand with equal or lesser MV, or drop a land. This is a powerful cost-reduction and card-advantage engine in any deck running flashback, cascade, foretell, escape, or adventure spells; it combos explosively with any effect that recurs or casts spells from library/graveyard/exile. The modal fallback (land drop) ensures the trigger is never dead. Signature in midrange goodstuff, toolbox, and combo shells in Bant colors.

Learnings (3)

  • Kellan's trigger fires on spells cast from graveyard (flashback, escape), exile (foretell, cascade, suspend, adventure second cast), or library (Mystical Tutor into top of library casts), making him synergistic with a huge swath of mechanics beyond just graveyard recursion.

  • The free permanent cast is not limited to creatures — artifacts, enchantments, planeswalkers, and lands all qualify, making Kellan a flexible toolbox enabler rather than a creature-tribal synergy piece.

  • The modal fallback (put a land from hand onto the battlefield) means Kellan's trigger is productive even with an empty or irrelevant hand, accelerating mana development as a consolation — this prevents him from being a 'dead trigger' card in land-heavy draws.
