Rationale

Page, Loose Leaf is a 2cmc 0/2 colorless mana-rock that taps for {C}, with a Grandeur ability requiring discard of another copy of itself to tutor the top instant or sorcery from your library into hand. The Grandeur trigger makes it a niche spellslinger/instant-sorcery-matters payoff, but the deck-construction constraint of running multiple copies of a legendary card in 100-card singleton makes this extremely difficult to leverage reliably; in Commander/Brawl you can only run one copy, so the Grandeur is essentially dead. As a pure mana-rock it competes unfavorably with colorless staples.

Learnings (3)

  • Grandeur abilities require discarding another card with the exact same name, which is nearly impossible to activate in 100-card singleton formats like Commander or Brawl where only one copy is legal — the ability is effectively a blank in those formats.

  • Despite being colorless, Page, Loose Leaf only taps for {C} (colorless mana), so it provides no color-fixing value, making it strictly worse than most 2-mana rocks in non-colorless decks.

  • In formats where multiple copies are allowed (e.g., 60-card casual), Page, Loose Leaf can serve as a repeatable instant/sorcery tutor, making it substantially stronger in those contexts than its Commander/Brawl fringe rating implies.
