Rationale

A 3cmc legendary Elf Horror whose power/toughness equals elves you control plus Elf cards in your graveyard, with vigilance and menace. Signature finisher in Golgari Elf tribal, scaling large with board presence and self-mill graveyard; the graveyard clause makes it uniquely synergistic with Elf self-mill strategies. Too narrow and creature-density-dependent for non-Elf shells.

Learnings (3)

  • The graveyard clause counts Elf *cards* (not just creatures), so Elf sorceries or instants (e.g., Gaea's Blessing, natural Elf tribal spells) count if they share the Elf subtype — but in practice very few non-creature Elves exist, making the graveyard clause almost exclusively relevant for dead Elf creatures.

  • Because it counts Elves you *control* (not just creatures you control), an Elf commander sitting in the command zone does NOT contribute to its power/toughness — it must be on the battlefield.

  • As a legendary creature with a graveyard-counting clause, Abomination of Llanowar functions best as a high-powered 89th-card threat in Elf tribal rather than as a commander itself, since using it as a commander means it starts in the command zone and contributes 0 to its own stats.
