Rationale

Aragorn and Arwen is a 6-mana GW legendary that distributes +1/+1 counters to all other creatures and gains life proportional to your board on ETB and attack. It rewards wide boards, synergizing strongly with tokens-go-wide and +1/+1 counter strategies, but is dead weight in small-creature or creatureless builds. The trigger fires on both ETB and attack, giving it some redundancy, but at 6 mana it competes with stronger finishers in optimized shells.

Learnings (3)

  • The ETB trigger fires on the turn it enters AND every subsequent attack — with vigilance it can trigger every turn without tapping, making it a sustained counter/lifegain engine rather than a one-shot effect.

  • In a wide creature board, a single attack can distribute 5-10 counters total and gain 5-10 life simultaneously, making it surprisingly potent in token decks despite the high mana cost.

  • Because the trigger counts 'each OTHER creature', the card scales steeply with board width — a board of 1 creature yields nearly zero value, so it is critical to deploy this into an existing board rather than as a top-end threat in isolation.
