Rationale

5-mana sorcery that deals 6 damage to an opponent's creature or planeswalker (premium removal rate) while also putting a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control, with basic landcycling {2} as a safety valve. In Limited it's a near-bomb — kills almost any creature or planeswalker and replaces itself in the worst case via cycling. In Commander/Brawl it's a solid role-player in red midrange or control shells that want flexible removal with a built-in mana-fixing outlet, but red usually has cheaper or more efficient options at higher brackets.

Learnings (3)

  • Basic landcycling on a removal spell means this card is never a dead draw in Limited — if you're flooded or off-color, cycle it for a basic land at {2}, making it a near-zero-risk inclusion.

  • 6 damage to a creature OR planeswalker is surprisingly wide coverage at 5 mana — it kills nearly every planeswalker in Standard-legal sets and most medium-to-large creatures, making it a functional unconditional answer at common rarity.

  • The +1/+1 counter bonus is a secondary effect that doesn't require a target, so the spell is castable even if you control no creatures; it's pure upside when creatures are available.
