Rationale

Bristlebud Farmer is a 4cmc 5/5 trample that ETBs creating two Food tokens, then converts those Foods into selective self-mill (mill 3, put a permanent to hand) on attacks. It's a strong standalone body with immediate ETB life-buffer and a repeatable card-selection engine in midrange and graveyard-matters shells. The attack trigger requires setup (Foods) and doesn't fire at instant speed, keeping it out of the top tier in Commander's larger threat landscape.

Learnings (3)

  • The attack trigger says 'you may put a permanent card from among them into your hand' — this selectively lets you cherry-pick the best permanent from the milled three, not just any card, making it notably better than random mill-and-draw for creature/enchantment/artifact decks.

  • Bristlebud Farmer arrives with exactly two Foods matching its two attack-trigger uses before needing external Food generation; decks that can produce additional Foods (Tireless Tracker, Gilded Goose, Shire Terrace) dramatically extend its card-selection output.

  • Because the put-to-hand effect only targets permanent cards, this card has essentially zero synergy with instant/sorcery-heavy spellslinger shells despite being a 'mill 3' effect — it's strictly a permanents-matter or graveyard-matters engine.
