Rationale

1cmc instant — sacrifice a creature as additional cost, draw two cards. Extremely efficient card-draw stapled to a sacrifice trigger, making it a signature include in aristocrats and sacrifice engines. Anti-voltron (can't afford to sacrifice the commander-creature) and weak in control (no creature density). In limited it's rarely worth the creature cost without a dedicated sacrifice synergy deck.

Learnings (3)

  • Although the sacrifice is an additional cost (not an activated ability), it still triggers all 'whenever a creature dies' effects, making this card function simultaneously as a sac outlet and a draw spell in one mana.

  • At 1 mana for 2 cards, Corrupted Conviction has the same rate as Altar's Reap but at instant speed and one mana cheaper, making it one of the most efficient black draw spells in sacrifice shells.

  • In cEDH and bracket-4 combo decks, this card is particularly strong as a 1-mana instant that can draw into combo pieces mid-chain while also enabling death triggers on combo-relevant creatures.
