Rationale

A 2-cmc 1/2 pirate that draws a card on combat damage (classic Ophidian effect) and conjures a Mox Emerald into hand upon drawing your third card in a turn — providing a one-time burst of free green mana and color fixing. The activated ability pumps it to 4/4 for {2}{G} to push through damage more reliably. Signature in draw-heavy Brawl shells (spellslinger, wheels) where hitting the third card in a turn is easy; the conjured Mox Emerald is a real mana/fixing payoff. Commander-not-legal limits its evaluation to Brawl/Arena contexts, where it's a solid 2-drop but dependent on connecting in combat.

Learnings (3)

  • The conjured Mox Emerald is a real card added to your hand (not a copy), providing {G} for free — in a U/G Brawl shell this can accelerate mana significantly the turn it triggers.

  • The third-card trigger fires only once per game instance of this creature, so bouncing or flickering it does NOT reset the Mox Emerald trigger.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • The {2}{G} pump ability makes this a credible threat even when behind on board — a 4/4 can trade up or force through combat damage reliably to draw more cards.
