Rationale

Fblthp grants free "Plot" to the top card of your library each turn, letting you exile and later cast any nonland from your topdeck without tapping mana on that card's turn — effectively acting as a top-deck manipulation engine and free-cast enabler. Most powerful in combo and spellslinger shells that can stack the library (Sensei's Divining Top, Brainstorm, Scry effects) to consistently convert the plot ability into free spells; Ward {2} provides some protection but it remains a 1/1 creature. The UU pip requirement means it slots best in mono-blue or blue-heavy builds.

Learnings (3)

  • Plot exiles the card face up and lets you cast it on a future turn without paying its mana cost — this is a genuine free-cast, not a cost reduction, meaning it bypasses any cost-increase effects but does NOT generate mana advantage immediately.

  • Fblthp's plot ability applies only to the top card, so pairing it with top-deck manipulation (Sensei's Divining Top, Mystical Tutor, Brainstorm) is essential to reliably plot high-impact spells rather than whatever is randomly on top.

  • Unlike many top-of-library engines, Fblthp lets you plot nonland cards (not just spells), which technically includes creatures — a subtle distinction that makes it stronger in creature-heavy combo shells that rely on specific creature ETBs.
