Rationale

5cmc 5/4 menace Spirit that mass-applies -2/-2 on ETB, functioning as a conditional boardwipe that clears small/medium creatures while leaving itself alive; the discard-outlet mode lets it function from hand as a one-shot -2/-2 ping. Signature in black midrange and control shells that want to stabilize the board, and relevant in spirit typal. Actively conflicts with tokens-go-wide (the ETB wipes your own tokens) and aggro (too slow and self-harming in go-wide strategies).

Learnings (3)

  • The ETB -2/-2 is a mass effect hitting ALL other creatures — including your own — so it actively destroys small tokens or low-toughness utility creatures you control, making it a liability in any wide-board strategy.

  • The discard activation ({1}{B}, discard this card) can be used at instant speed from hand as a pseudo-removal spell, giving the card meaningful utility when it would otherwise be stuck in a congested hand or facing a counterspell.

  • As a 5-power menace creature that also clears blockers, it can force through damage profitably even if the ETB only kills one or two of your opponent's creatures in Brawl's 25-life environment.
