Rationale

3cmc 3/2 legendary Human Warlock with two relevant effects: ETB recursion (return a creature from graveyard to hand) and a static cost-reducer making all your creature spells cost {1} less. A solid value piece in BG midrange and reanimator shells that want cheap creatures back in hand, but the cost-reduction is non-trivial for creature-heavy decks and pairs well with aristocrats loops. Neither effect is individually broken, making this a tier-2 generalist rather than a signature all-star.

Learnings (3)

  • The cost-reducer is a static ability applying to ALL creature spells you cast, not just the one returned — so it effectively pays back its own slot in creature-dense decks as a pseudo-mana-rock.

  • The ETB returns to hand (not battlefield), so it doesn't trigger ETB effects on the recovered creature immediately; it sets up a future cast, which does interact nicely with the cost-reduction.

  • As a legendary 3cmc BG creature, Honest Rutstein is a strong Brawl commander candidate for BG midrange/reanimator shells, where the cost-reducer applies every turn after it lands.
