Rationale

Loot is a 3cmc Temur legendary that exiles X cards from the top of your library each upkeep (X = number of card types among other nonland permanents) and lets you play them that turn — a powerful repeatable impulse-draw engine. In decks running diverse permanent types (artifacts, enchantments, creatures, planeswalkers), X quickly reaches 4–5, making it a defining midrange and toolbox card. Fragile at 1/2 but protected by Ward {1}; the ability only fires if Loot survives to upkeep, so it's meaningfully commander-dependent.

Learnings (3)

  • The card types counted are among OTHER nonland permanents you control, so Loot itself does not contribute to X — building diverse nonland permanent types (artifact, enchantment, creature, planeswalker, battle) is essential to maximize value.

  • Exiled cards can only be played 'this turn,' so having access to sufficient mana on your upkeep-to-main-phase window is critical; extra mana sources or mana doublers synergize strongly.

  • In Temur shells with artifacts, enchantments, and planeswalkers alongside creatures, X routinely hits 4-5 by turn 5-6, making Loot one of the most efficient impulse-draw engines available at 3 mana.
