Rationale

Mimeoplasm enters exiling up to X creatures from your graveyard, gaining 3 counters per card exiled, then can pay {2} to copy any exiled card. It's a graveyard-reliant self-mill/reanimator powerhouse that grows into a massive threat and doubles as a repeatable clone engine. Signature in Sultai self-mill/reanimator shells where it can enter as a 9/9+ or larger and then morph into a game-winning bomb creature; the activated clone ability lets it pivot to utility or combo lines mid-game. Weak without a stocked graveyard and fragile to removal before the {2} activation can recoup value.

Learnings (3)

  • Mimeoplasm's activated {2} copy ability lets it effectively become any creature exiled with it mid-game, making the exile zone a toolbox of threats — stacking it with an Infect creature plus a high-power creature like Phyrexian Dreadnought on entry is a classic one-shot kill line.

  • Because Mimeoplasm copies the exiled card's text while staying 0/0 (then gaining counters separately), it can copy creatures with powerful static or triggered abilities without those abilities depending on base P/T — but it does NOT copy the exiled card's counters or auras.

  • As a commander, Mimeoplasm scales with opponent's graveyards too via mill effects on opponents, allowing it to exile the best creature from any graveyard on the table, not just your own.
