Rationale

2cmc instant — add RRR, a net gain of 1 red mana. A red Dark Ritual analogue: signature in storm and combo shells that need a burst of mana to chain spells in a single turn. Strictly a ritual (no land, no token), producing only red mana, so it is color-locked and provides zero persistent value. Positive in burn as a ritual that funds a game-ending spell dump; negative in control/midrange/ramp where sustained mana advantage is preferred over burst.

Learnings (3)

  • Pyretic Ritual is a strict red Dark Ritual analogue — it produces a net +1 red mana but leaves no permanent behind, making it useful only in decks that can chain spells in the same turn (Storm, Grapeshot, Empty the Warrens lines).

  • Unlike Desperate Ritual, Pyretic Ritual has no splice-onto-arcane clause, making it slightly less flexible in Arcane-themed Storm builds but otherwise functionally identical.

  • In Commander, Pyretic Ritual is primarily a Storm or combo piece rather than a general ramp card — it provides no acceleration on subsequent turns and is a liability in fair red decks.
