Rationale

1cmc instant — grants hexproof until end of turn AND creates a Royal Role token (aura) that gives the creature +1/+1 and ward {1}. Solid protection spell that also leaves a permanent enchantment behind, making it a fit in voltron/aura-voltron and enchantment-matters shells. In Commander it's too narrow versus broader protection (Swiftfoot Boots, Lightning Greaves) but shines in Brawl's 1v1 where tempo-protecting a threat is more impactful.

Learnings (3)

  • Royal Treatment creates a Role token as a permanent aura, so it triggers enchantment-matters effects like Siona or Sram even though it's cast as an instant — the protection effect is a bonus on top of an enchantment that sticks around.

  • The Role token replaces any existing Role on the creature (same-controller rule), so avoid using this in decks that rely on a specific higher-value Role already attached to the target creature.

  • Ward {1} from the Royal Role is a weak deterrent in Commander where opponents routinely have spare mana, but in Brawl 1v1 it provides meaningful friction against cheap targeted removal.
