Rationale

Tinybones is a 1cmc 1/1 deathtouch rogue — deathtouch makes it a potent attacker that demands a blocker or threatens a free cast from the opponent's graveyard. The combat-damage trigger lets you cast any nonland permanent from the damaged player's graveyard at any mana cost, making it a powerful reanimator/theft engine stapled onto a 1-drop. Signature in graveyard-matters and reanimator shells (opponents' yards are a resource), and ideal as a voltron commander with evasion-granting equipment since deathtouch guarantees profitable combat. Fully dependent on connecting in combat and the opponent having relevant graveyard targets.

Learnings (3)

  • Tinybones casts the card — not reanimates it — meaning the spell goes on the stack normally, triggers ETBs, and interacts with cast-matters effects like Prowess or Thousand-Year Storm.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • Deathtouch means Tinybones is nearly guaranteed a free block deterrent, but opponents can simply let it through and accept the damage if their graveyard is empty or contains nothing threatening, so proactive self-milling opponents or wheels-heavy metas amplify its power.

  • Because the trigger says 'you may cast,' not 'put onto the battlefield,' the cast can be countered; in control-heavy metas this significantly diminishes the trigger's reliability.
