Rationale

Wedding Ring is a 4cmc group-hug artifact that gifts a copy to a target opponent on cast, then mirrors their draws and life gain during their turns. It's a signature group-hug / lifegain-matters piece but entirely dependent on an opponent keeping the token — if they sacrifice, exile, or bounce it, both engines shut off. Actively conflicts with competitive plans since you're handing an opponent free resources and card advantage with no guarantee of reciprocation.

Learnings (3)

  • Wedding Ring's draw and life-gain triggers only fire 'during their turn,' meaning if the opponent draws at instant speed on your turn (e.g., via a Clue or cantrip on your turn), you do NOT get the copy — timing matters more than it appears.

  • If the opponent destroys or sacrifices their Wedding Ring copy before their next draw step, the engine immediately shuts off with no fallback value; the card has zero utility once the opponent's copy is gone.

  • In 4-player Commander, Wedding Ring can only gift to ONE chosen opponent on cast, so it scales poorly compared to true group-hug cards that affect all opponents — its draw-mirroring is therefore weaker than it looks in multiplayer.
