Rationale

Avengers Disassembled is a modal sorcery at 3cmc that can sweep all creatures with ≤2 toughness, destroy a land (with a basic-land replacement for the opponent), or do both. The "choose one or both" flexibility is its main draw — offering a mini-Pyroclasm plus land destruction in one card. The land mode gives the opponent a basic, making it more of a tempo disruption than true land destruction. The sweeper mode is relevant in creature-heavy metas but misses bigger threats.

Learnings (3)

  • The 'choose one or both' clause means this card can simultaneously sweep small creatures AND destroy a land for just {1}{R}{R} — a remarkably efficient two-for-one that neither mode alone could provide at this cost.

  • The land destruction mode is softer than Stone Rain: the opponent fetches a basic tapped, so it is mana-denial tempo rather than hard lock, making this acceptable in more casual brackets where hard MLD is frowned upon.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • The boardwipe mode only hits creatures with ≤2 toughness (deals 3 damage), so it blanks entirely against large-creature or indestructible strategies despite the impressive visual of 'destroy all' language.
