Rationale

Brotherhood's End is a modal 3cmc red sorcery offering either a sweeper that deals 3 damage to all creatures and planeswalkers, or mass artifact destruction targeting mana value 3 or less. The flexibility is its defining trait: mode one cleanses token swarms and small creatures while hitting planeswalkers; mode two is a targeted answer to mana rocks and low-cost artifact engines. Both modes are relevant in red control/midrange strategies and stax-prison builds that want to strip opponents' fast mana rocks. It actively conflicts with artifact-matters decks and token-go-wide strategies that rely on small creatures surviving.

Learnings (3)

  • The artifact-destruction mode specifically erases the most common fast mana rocks (Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, Mana Crypt, Dockside Extortionist when valued at 0-2) while leaving expensive rocks intact, making it a surgical anti-fast-mana tool unique among red boardwipes.

  • Mode one hits planeswalkers in addition to creatures, which is unusual for a mass-damage spell and gives red a rare way to clear multiple planeswalkers at once without dedicating a separate slot.

  • Because both modes are broadly useful in different game states, Brotherhood's End rarely feels like a dead draw — the correct mode is almost always available, which elevates it above single-mode sweepers like Pyroclasm or Shatter effects.
