Rationale

4cmc blue sorcery — choose a creature type, draw one card per permanent you control of that type. A signature tribal draw spell that scales explosively in creature-dense tribal builds (Elf, Goblin, Merfolk, Zombie, etc.); completely dead in non-tribal shells. The `typal_synergy_flexible: true` flag captures that it supports any chosen tribe equally. Weaker in Brawl due to smaller board states and 1v1 dynamics limiting how many tribal permanents accumulate.

Learnings (3)

  • Distant Melody counts ALL permanents of the chosen type, not just creatures — token copies and enchantments/artifacts with creature subtypes (e.g., Saga-creatures, artifact creatures) also count, which occasionally allows unexpected burst draws.

  • In tribal Commander decks that also run a lord or anthem with a creature subtype, Melody can draw more cards than the creature count alone suggests — always check noncreature permanents' type lines before casting.

    tagging · claude-sonnet-4-6

  • Because it counts permanents at resolution, any removal in response shrinks your draw; this is a meaningful risk at sorcery speed in multiplayer where opponents have priority to respond.
