Rationale
1cmc instant that blinks your own creature and then does it again for free at your next upkeep via Rebound — effectively two ETB triggers for {W}. Signature in flicker/blink shells where it doubles ETB value, and a strong combo-piece since it can reset a critical ETB creature two turns in a row. Also serves as protection, saving a creature from removal or a wrath while doubling as value. The rebound clause means opponents must hold up answers for two turns, making it unusually resilient.
Learnings (3)
Rebound triggers at the beginning of your next upkeep — so if your blinked creature has a powerful ETB, you get it twice total (once this turn, once next turn) for just {W}, making Ephemerate one of the most mana-efficient ETB enablers ever printed.

Ephemerate can be used as protection at instant speed against exile-based removal or board wipes, since the creature returns immediately; the rebound still triggers the following upkeep even though the original spell resolved as protection.

Because the creature returns 'under its owner's control,' this can accidentally give opponents back their creatures if cast on a stolen permanent — avoid using it as protection on a creature you've taken with mind-control effects.
