Rationale

6cmc 6/6 flying trample Elder Dragon — has cascade itself and grants cascade to all instants and sorceries cast from hand. This is a defining engine for Simic spellslinger and cascade combo shells, where cheap instants and sorceries chain into free spells repeatedly. At 6 mana it's slow to come online and demands a spell-dense deck, but once live it generates explosive cascading value; in cEDH-adjacent lists it can enable degenerate chains with cheap cantrips and interaction.

Learnings (3)

  • Granting cascade to instants and sorceries cast from hand means the CMC-less-than-6 ceiling applies to each cascade trigger — running a carefully managed mana curve (lots of 1-3 CMC spells) is critical to avoid cascading into unwanted hits.

  • Unlike Yidris or other cascade commanders, Quandrix triggers cascade on every instant/sorcery from hand each turn, not just on attacks — this makes defensive and reactive spells like counterspells and removal also cascade, which is a significant play-pattern distinction.

  • Cascade chains can accidentally exile and cast combo pieces from the library prematurely; decks building around this card should audit their cascade targets to avoid self-disruption with key singleton pieces.
