Rationale

Subterranean Tremors is a scalable red sorcery that deals X damage to all non-flying creatures (selective wrath), destroys all artifacts at X≥4, and creates an 8/8 Lizard token at X≥8, making it a three-in-one sweeper/removal/threat. It excels in red control and big-mana shells that can reliably hit 8+ mana, but the flying exemption and sorcery speed limit reliability against evasive boards, and the symmetric damage punishes your own ground creatures.

Learnings (3)

  • The flying exemption means Subterranean Tremors is a one-sided wipe only if your deck runs few or no ground creatures — red control shells with primarily instants/sorceries and no creatures benefit most from the asymmetry.

  • At X=8 the card is effectively three spells in one (partial wipe, Shatterstorm, and an 8/8 threat), making it one of the most mana-efficient red sweepers when cast for 9+ total mana.

  • The artifact destruction clause at X≥4 is not optional — it destroys ALL artifacts including your own, so decks running mana rocks or key artifacts risk blowing up their own permanents when going wide on X.
