Rationale

Veil of Summer is a 1-mana instant that draws a card if an opponent cast a blue or black spell this turn, makes your spells uncounterable, and grants you and your permanents hexproof from blue and black. It is a premier green anti-control tool — essentially a one-sided Autumn's Veil stapled to a conditional cantrip, making it free or better in reactive contexts. Signature in combo and midrange shells that need to protect a key spell or permanent from blue/black disruption; the uncounterable clause is especially relevant in cEDH where Force of Will and Counterspell are ubiquitous.

Learnings (3)

  • Veil of Summer's 'spells you control can't be countered' clause is a static ability that applies to ALL your spells this turn, not just itself — casting it before your combo piece on the same turn protects the entire stack.

  • The card-draw trigger fires if ANY opponent cast a blue or black spell this turn, even if it resolved, was countered, or was cast before Veil — making it almost always a free cantrip at cEDH tables where blue/black is nearly universal.

  • Unlike Autumn's Veil (which it functionally upgrades), Veil of Summer also grants you personal hexproof from blue and black, which stops targeted discard and other hand-disruption abilities that target the player.
